Palliative oncology is offered to patients with a cancer diagnosis and has a symptom burden affecting their activity of daily living leading to poor quality of life. It is a service provided for patients and families with or without curative management.
The team at Aster comprises Palliative Medicine Consultants, Interventional Pain Management Consultants, Palliative Nurse-specialists, Psycho-oncologist, Nutritionist, Physiotherapists, Occupational therapists, and Speech and swallowing specialists, who work on an interdisciplinary approach, with patient-centric evidence-based management. We provide Supportive care & symptom control, that could arise primarily from any life-limiting illness or from the treatment for the illness. Life-limiting illnesses such as Oncology, heart failure, chronic kidney disease, chronic pulmonary disease, Cancer, Chronic liver disease, Neurological illness, Pediatric palliative care, geriatric palliative care
The symptoms are managed aggressively along the lines of the Acute Palliative Care Unit model, ensuring improved quality and dignity of life. Palliative care is initiated from the time of diagnosis of a life-limiting illness and continues throughout the trajectory of the treatment. We are keen to support active disease management and continued extended care at home for the survivors. and for the bereaved. Our care comprises not only the patient, but we also extend complete care even for the family members and loved ones.
We have initiated Aster Care Extended (ACE) at home and would take care of the patients who are bed bound and require support at home. The services include tele-consults, nurses, equipment (hospital cot, air bed, oxygen concentrator, etc… and appropriate medications. We as a team cover end-to-end service which also comprises end-of-life care at the hospital/home and extends into bereavement support for loved ones.
